Anglia Ruskin University is a pleasant ten-minute walk from the railway station (see the main map for the suggested route). If you would like to explore further afield, why not hire a bike to see more of the city. Bikes are available to hire throughout the event from a number of public bike operators.

Chelmsford was awarded city status as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012 making it one of the UK’s newest cities, but did you know that Chelmsford was briefly the capital of England in 1381. The county town of Essex has also been the site of a Roman trading post, medieval market and Victorian industrial centre, and is home to Britain’s second smallest cathedral.

Guglielmo Marconi put Chelmsford on the map over a century ago, as the birthplace of radio and his association with the city is celebrated with a bronze statue at Marconi Plaza near the Civic Theatre. If you’re walking or cycling to the campus from the station, look out for the New Street Works — the world’s first purpose-built radio factory.
