Hertfordshire Year Walking
The project will run throughout 2015 and aims to inspire and motivate more people in the county to walk, whether that's for exercise, to explore the countryside or simply getting from A to B. Season ticket loan

Public Transport Discounts

Herts Liftshare
Why not share your journey to work with someone else? Herts Liftshare is a free, private network of people at HCC who are willing to share their journey to and from work with other employees. www.Hertsliftshare.org

Pool bikes
10 pool bikes are avalaible for hire to all staff based at Stevenage. The bikes can be used for business related journeys or leisure rides on a lunch time. You can also borrow a bike for up to two weeks if you are considering cycling as a travel mode but don’t own a bike. pool.bikes@hertfordshire.gov.uk

A number of bus routes serve Stevenage Town Centre connecting residential areas of the town and neighbouring towns and villages. Most buses stop either at the rail or the bus station which is about a 15 minute walk from the Gunnels Wood Road site.
Alternatively some peak hour services connect to the bus and rail stations and residential areas of the town.

Real-time passenger information is being rolled out across the county, showing when buses will actually arrive, on an electronic display at bus stops, online and via smartphone.
All bus stops have a QR code and an NFC chip which can be used to download bus specific and real-time information. The intalink website is mobile friendly providing access to real-time information and journey planning on the move. Stevenage railway station is served by both local and intercity services and is approximately 15 minutes walk from the Gunnels Wood Road site. Services from both Cambridge and Peterborough operate 3 trains per hour frequencies during the peak and London Kings Cross can be accessed in as little as 28 minutes. Bicycles can be carried on many services to Stevenage, check the guidelines here www.thameslinkrailway.com.

Stevenage has over 45km of cycleways making it one of the best towns in the UK for travelling by bicycle. The cycleway network allows cyclists to ride uninterrupted by other traffic; crossing at major junctions and other convenient points through underpasses.
The majority of the town can be reached in approximately a 20 minute cycle ride. National Cycle Network (NCN) route 12 forms part of the Stevenage network connecting the town to Letchworth Garden City to the north in around 35 minutes and Welwyn Garden City to the south in 1 hour.

Robertson and Farnham House are within a 15 minute walk from the town centre, rail and bus station.
Walking is a healthy form of exercise and can be enjoyed by everyone. It generates no pollution, is free and a green way to increase your fitness levels, with low risk of injury. At an average walking speed you can cover a mile in 20 minutes.
Walking and cycling are good for your health, can reduce the risk of many diseases and an excellent way of losing weight.
While environmentally-friendly modes of travel are preferred, sometimes the car is the only viable option. Parking is limited on site and car sharing is encouraged as it cuts the cost of travel and makes journeys more sustainable.
Hertfordshire County Council; operates a private car share at www.hertsliftshare.org where you can make contact with colleagues travelling your way and try lift sharing. You don't have to have a car to join.

Visitor parking is very limited so if you have no alternative for travel to the Gunnels Wood Road site please allow time for parking before your meeting.
Access before 10am is via Caxton Road, after this time the Six Hills Ways access is operational.
For those attending training at Robertson House parking is provided in the delegates parking located a short walk from the site and accessed via Bessemer Drive.
